We are happy to announce Nadine Sellers as the 2013 Brigade Youth of the Year. Five finalists competed for the Youth of the Year title including Deanna S, Anthony C, Denea M, Nadine and Micaela G. Payless Shoe Source Grant Award

The Brigade Boys & Girls Club is pleased to announce we have been selected as an official partner of Payless GivesTM Shoes 4 Kids, an annual giving program from Payless ShoeSource. This is the fifth year of the Payless GivesTM Shoes 4 Kids program and the first award for the Brigade Boys & Girls Club.

A total of 150 members of the Brigade Boys & Girls Club will receive new shoes courtesy of Payless. Each Club member gets their own personal shopping experience including getting their foot measured to working with the Payless associates to try on shoes of their choice. “This is a special opportunity for our Club members. Many of our Club members have only worn used shoes, so shopping for their own brand new shoes is a great experience for them” stated Angie Hill, Director of Marketing & Development for the Brigade Boys & Girls Club. “We are so thankful to Payless for this opportunity for our Club kids and families.” The Brigade is working with the Independence Mall Payless store with shopping trips each week based on age groups. The shopping began in December and will run through the end of January to ensure all children receive their new shoes.

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation has provided a $2,000 grant to support the Club’s Junior Staff program.  With the assistance of this grant the Club will be able to expand its Junior Staff programming which aims to develop job readiness and leadership skills with our Teen Club members.  The program also provides professionals and business leaders to help Teen Club members explore various careers and the necessary education goals needed for those professions.

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation is dedicated to providing opportunity for all in its commitment to our community.  Bank of America believes providing support to organizations like the Brigade Boys & Girls Club to help provide opportunity and improve the quality of life in our local communities.   We appreciate Bank of America’s support of our Club and our kids.

RJ Reynolds Supports the Club

The Brigade Boys & Girls Club is joining effort to reduce youth tobacco use with help from a grant from the “Right Decisions, Right Now” program funded by Reynolds American Inc.  The grant will be used to support the Club’s SMART Moves program, a prevention and education program for all Club members to address drug and alcohol use.

The $1,000 grant for the youth tobacco use prevention project was contributed through a program that enables employees to request funds from their employer for youth tobacco prevention projects at local community organizations.  The Right Decisions, Right Now Participant Program was launched in October 2001 and today gives employees opportunities to identify additional methods of reducing youth tobacco use in their community.

Thank you to Alan Cribbs for all his support and work in helping us obtain this grant.

Stuff the Backpack Campaign

The Brigade Boys & Girls Club set a new record for its “Stuff the Backpack” Campaign, distributing over 225 backpacks to Club members in-need on Tuesday, August 14th.  “Stuff the Backpack” gives donors the opportunity to sponsor a child for the new school year, supplying them with a new backpack and school supplies to help get their school year started on the right path.  In addition to a backpack and school supplies, each child received new books through a grant with First Book.
