Work on Wilmington helps Brigade

On Saturday, April 21st Work on Wilmington stopped by the Brigade to give the Club a much needed “face lift”.  Volunteer groups from Verizon, NC State Ports, Wavecrest Community Church and others worked on two major projects for the Brigade; painting the Youth Center and clean-up of the playground and athletic field.  The Youth Center gamesroom, entrance way and hallway all received new coats of paint in fun and joyful colors.  The Athletic Field received an overdue landscaping job including cutting and removal of overgrown brush, vines and trees.

The Brigade Boys & Girls Club was awarded the Work on Wilmington project through Leadership Wilmington, a ten-month leadership program through the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce.   Thank you to the Chamber, the Leadership Wilmington class and all the people who volunteered their time to help the Brigade.

Group Honored as Volunteer of Year

The Brigade is pleased to announce Steve Hebert of Break Time Billiards and Alan and Gloria Cribbs of Bonzini USA have been selected as the Julian Tusch “Volunteer of the Year Award” by the Club.   Over the past five years the group has raised more than $15,000 for the Club through golf tournaments, foosball tournaments and grants with RJ Reynolds.  In addition to financial support, Alan & Gloria Cribbs have also donated several new foosball tables to our Club sites.

Thank you Steve, Alan and Gloria for all your support of the Brigade!!

Verizon Community Outreach

Seventeen employees volunteered at the Brigade Boys & Girls Club last Friday, March 30th to assist with the Club’s annual Easter Egg Hunt.  As part of its involvement with the United Way of the Cape Fear Area, Verizon has committed to a monthly outreach project to local United Way partnering agencies.

The Verizon employees worked for over three hours hiding thousands of eggs for the eager Club members.  Almost 200 children participated in the Easter Egg Hunt.   The Brigade Boys & Girls Club would like to extend a huge thank you to Verizon for helping with this year’s hunt.  We look forward to continuing our partnership with Verizon and the United Way.

If your company is interested in volunteering at the Club, please contact Angie Hill at ahill@brigadebgc.org or 910-791-4282.

Rocky Point Open House

Club families, Club staff and church members joined the Brigade Boys & Girls Club for their Open House Celebration on March 27th.  The Open House was to celebrate the Club’s new location in Rocky Point at Pike Presbyterian Church.

The Open House included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tour of the new facilities and spaghetti dinner.  The Club will officially open at Pike Presbyterian on Monday, April 2nd.

A big thank you to Rev JC and the church members at Pike Presbyterian for partnering with us.  For more information on our Club’s after-school and summer programs in Pender County, please contact Theresa Langely at tlangley@brigadebgc.org or 910-675-0091.
