Regal Cinema Grant Award

The Brigade Boys & Girls Club partnered with Regal Entertainment Group for Club members to enjoy the movies with the Summer Movie Express. Regal Entertainment Group awarded the Club a grant to offer free tickets to Pender County & New Hanover County Club members and to help cover other expenses such as transportation and snacks.

“Our Boys & Girls Club members were thrilled to participate in Regal Entertainment Group’s Summer Movie Express,” said Jeff Green of Brigade Boys & Girls Club. “The number of youth we serve often doubles in the summer months; therefore we’re always grateful for opportunities that offer fun and engaging activities for our young people. Most importantly, we can leverage this experience to stretch their imagination, while opening doors to a world of exploration and excitement.”

Brigade Boys & Girls Club shares the joy at Regal Mayfaire Cinema 16 located at Mayfaire Town Center, where Club members add fun at the movies to their summer activity list. Thank you again to Regal Cinemas for this great opportunity for our Club youth.

Brigade Partners with Time Warner Cable

The Brigade Boys & Girls Club announces a significant educational partnership with Time Warner Cable.  Time Warner Cable presented a check for $11,000 to the Club to support a program called Ready 2 Design 2 Day (R2D2), a robotics program aimed to enhance students’, ages 9-18, skills in STEM.  Time Warner Cable’s investment includes cash and in-kind resources.

“We are thrilled to partner with Time Warner Cable,” said Jeff Green, the Club’s Executive Director.  “We are very excited to offer the robotics program to our Club members and help promote the importance of STEM skills.”

“Time Warner Cable is confident members at the Brigade Club will not only enhance their STEM skills during the R2D2 program, but that they will have fun while they are building and programming the robots, said Christine Whitaker, area vice president of operations, Eastern North Carolina, Time Warner Cable.  “This program fulfills our Connect a Million Minds mission to engage students in hands-on learning activities that inspire them to pursue additional education and ultimately careers in STEM related fields.”

The R2D2 curriculum challenges Club members to build and program smart robots while developing the STEM skills they will need to be the problem solvers of the future in a fun and adventurous way.  Club members will learn computer programming, mechanical engineering and team building skills during the program.  R2D2 will culminate in a Robotics Expo that will showcase the program participants’ competed work.

In addition to supporting the R2D2 program, Time Warner Cable will continue to provide complimentary data services to the club, so that students may access the internet in Club computer labs.
