Breakfast at the Kids Table Raises over $25,000 for the Club

Over 160 people including members of the community, Board Members, Club staff and Club kids all attended the second annual Breakfast at the Kids Table on August 11th at the Cape Fear Country Club. This hosted table event is designed to educate the community on the Brigade Boys & Girls Club as well as celebrate the accomplishments of the Club members. Twenty-five Club members were hand selected to attend the event based on demonstrating positive qualities such as honesty, respect and good attitude and serve as a great representation of the Brigade Boys & Girls Club.
The event was hosted by two of our Teen Club members, Andre Fullwood and Nadine Brown, whom helped with emcee duties. Our 2009 Youth of the Year, Diana Bracht spoke to the crowd about her personal experiences growing up in the Club and how that influence has helped shape who she is today. A big thanks to Gary Chadwick, Board Member, who also shared a personal testimony about the influence the Club had on him as both a youth and an adult.

Thanks to the generous support of the community, the fund-raising event raised over $25,000!! A special thanks to US Cellular as a Platinum Sponsor for providing a $10,000 donation to the Club. We are thankful for your commitment to providing our kids a safe and fun environment.
A special thank you to DJ Professionals and Video who provided audio/visual services for the breakfast. Finally, thanks to our Board of Directors, Club staff and Club kids who helped make this breakfast a wonderful achievement!

ANTSO National Miss
National Miss Winner Visits the Club

Alexis Gonzalez, 2009 North Carolina ANTSO National Miss, visited the Club on June 23rd to meet, greet and visit with the kids. Ms. Gonzalez, a rising sophomore at UNCW, won the title crown at the state level and will compete at the end of the summer for the national title. ANTSO, America’s National Teenager Scholarship Organization, is the longest running premier pageant for teens in the U.S. which awards college scholarships to the winners. The organization focuses on the importance of academic excellence and community service, which is included in the scoring system. Ms. Gonzalez toured the Club, gave a speech to the kids about her journey and handed out autograph cards. The kids enjoyed hearing her story and seeing her beautiful crown. Thank you to Ms. Gonzalez for visiting the Club and we hope to have her back soon!
Wells Fargo Stagecoach Rides at Mayfaire

Wells Fargo’s famous stagecoach logo was brought to life on June 25th as Club members were treated to a dinner and stagecoach rides at Mayfaire Town Center. Over 25 Club members got to experience the Old West as a specially trained team of horses, guided by an experienced driver, guided the stagecoach through Mayfaire. With only 17 fleets in action across the U.S., it was a special treat for our kids to experience! Thank you to Rick Schomo of Wells Fargo Advisors for inviting us to this wonderful event.
