“Through the Eyes of a Child” Photography Exhibit
As part of Boys & Girls Club week, the Brigade’s Shutterbug Program put together an exhibit entitled “Through the Eyes of a Child”. The Club members were educated on the importance of framing as well as taking pictures from different perspectives. The exhibit included photography from Club members ages 6-16.
These photographs will be judged and the winners of each age category will be submitted to the ImageMakers National Photography Contest through Boys & Girls Club of America.

Holiday Activities at the Brigade
The holiday season was a very exciting time at the Brigade Boys & Girls Club. The month of December was very busy with activities such as the Holiday Party, a Christmas production of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and caroling to local businesses.
On December 14th the Club held its annual Holiday Party, sponsored by the Wilmington Junior League, with fun events such as cookie decorating, stocking walk, gym games, gingerbread house decorating and a special visit from Santa himself! The kids were also treated to a magic show from No Sleeves Magic. Thanks to generous donations from local companies and individuals, every child at the Club received a stocking for Christmas. In addition, thanks to Old Navy on College Road, every child received two pairs of gloves for the winter season. Finally, a special thank you to PURE Communications, who provided over 75 stockings for our kids!!
On December 17th over 15 Club members got to put their acting skills to work as they participated in a Christmas production of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. The production, sponsored by the Landfall Foundation, was the first organized Christmas play at the Brigade. All participants practiced and rehearsed for a month, including teaching them about basic drama skills and vocabulary, introduction to set design, but with the main focus on self-expression and creativity. Thank you to all the parents and friends who came to cheer on our actors!
Bells were ringing and children were singing as the Brigade took to Wilmington to sing Christmas carols to local businesses. For two days, 15 Brigade singers sang their hearts out to spread joy and say thanks to some of our sponsors. Thank you to J. Michael’s Philly Deli on Oleander Drive and Cracker Barrel for donating lunch to our carolers. Be on the lookout for our carolers next December!
On behalf of the Board of Directors and the Brigade Staff, thank you to all the companies, foundations and individuals who made our Christmas special this year. We appreciate all the support you have given our Club and our kids!

Fall Festival at the Brigade
October is the time to celebrate a new season, changing of the leaves and of course - Halloween! The Brigade Boys & Girls Club transformed into a carnival for their annual Fall Festival. Club members played carnival games such as football toss, lucky duck and putt-putt, made their way through a bouncy-house obstacle course, participated in a cupcake walk, had their face painted and ate lots of fun food including nachos, cotton candy and snow cones.
A special thanks to Kohl’s, who as part of their Kohl’s Cares Associates in Action program, sent employees to help volunteer at the Fall Festival. Thank you to Kohl’s and our other volunteers who helped make this day a special event for our Club members!
